A tailor shop in the jungle
BanguraBird is a social business producing a range of handmade products at a pedal-powered tailor shop in Masanga, Sierra Leone. The production generates a sustainable source of income for the reestablishment of Masanga Hospital. BanguraBird supports the local community by making sure that people are getting employed and sick people are treated.
BanguraBird product portfolio started with a range of bags made of used bicycle tubes, that are upcycled into sleeves, bags and pouches with a dust and water resistant outside and beautiful African fabric on the inside. Following a bigger interest in the colourful African fabrics we have started a range of mens accessories like bow ties and pocket squares, coloring up men to stand out as modern gentlemen with a deep story behind.
Ever since 2011 the Tailor Shop and BanguraBird has been certified as a Fair Trade company by Fair Trade Denmark, living up to high standards regarding transparency, salaries, education and general working conditions. Among other initiatives the Tailor Shop provides education in basic English and Math to all employees.
